The fanlisting Legendary Guardian summarizes Auron:
Auron is Spira's legendary guardian, the one who helped High Summoner Braska and Jecht (another guardian and Tidus' father) to defeat Sin several years ago and bring in the Calm. Of course, this Calm was only temporary, as by the time Auron returns to Spira with Tidus, Sin has come back with a bang. While he dedicates himself to Yuna's pilgrimage, Auron certainly seems to know far more than he lets on, and would make one wonder at just what he has in mind. After all, he must have had some reasoning in bringing the son of his friend Jecht into the middle of all this turmoil.[1]
